Greetings and Salutations
My name is Eleanor Corbie, and I am a psychic investigator. For the
past five years I have made a study of every known psychic incidence
that has occurred at a very singular site located in the South East
of England. Whether it was a breath of cold air, the whispering of someone's
name, or a full figure apparition, I have tried to get behind the emotion
felt by those who have experienced these incidents, and instead look
at the psychic causes. In doing so I have reached some startling conclusions
as well as confirming long held beliefs on the part of myself and others
who work in the field.
The site to which I have been drawn is that of Dover Castle, and my
research has led me towards some interesting discoveries. On this web
site I will attempt to outline my theories, although please bear in
mind that these are very basic outlines.
In order to finance my research I have arranged a series of ghost walks
around the site at Dover Castle, with myself acting as leader of the
party and, very occasionally, we have even been lucky enough to witness
actual psychic activity while embarked upon these walks. The artwork
you see to the side of this text is taken from sketches of the ghosts
of Dover Castle, and are provided merely to add a little visual interest
Dover Castle is without doubt the most psychically active place I have
seen. To put it more simply, Dover Castle is the most haunted place
I know. It is my belief that what makes Dover Castle unique is that
the apparitions, the sightings, the psychic happenings are not isolated,
but linked. Controlled, even. That there is some force or body that
directs their actions - for what purpose I have not discovered - yet.
I have called this ‘entity’ Raven. What are ghosts? I believe
that they are echoes - echoes of the past, the present, the future.
They are imprints on the landscape. The landscape records emotions -
extremes. It soaks up these emotions, recording the events that have
happened, are happening and are yet to happen. Extremes of joy and sadness,
pleasure and pain, happiness and despair. I believe that where there
are rocks and high places, we see those imprints of pain and suffering.
Think of most of the ghost stories that you know - lovers leaping to
their deaths from towering cliffs, old churchyards, castles. In stone
and on high we see sorrow. But in low places - in landscapes of water
we see imprints of the opposite : joy and happiness. Most of us enjoy
the seaside. We seek out lakes and rivers. We throw coins into fountains
and wells, not to ward off evil but to attract good - good luck or a
wish to come true.
At Dover these landscapes co exist. The sea, the cliffs, the stone of
the castle, the well. The idea that the landscape acts as records for
these emotions is not new - nor that certain people are players of those
recordings. These people are receivers, receptors, perceptives, call
them what you will, but it is clear that some people can play these
recordings while others cannot. They are not necessarily psychics, there
will be people visiting this web site and reading these words, who are
players of these recordings, and yet who are not psychic. Some people
claim that the common experiences of deja vu are examples of people
playing back the recording of something that has just happened, or is
going to happen, and how many people do you know who claim to occasionally
feel a sense of deja vu? I say sense, because it is a sense, part of
this sixth sense which offers us a glimpse of this past landscape which
has been recorded. A sixth sense that I believe we all have, but rarely
use. That sense that makes the hair on the back of our necks tingle
when we perceive something but can’t really discern what.
It may be that with enough experience, most of us could communicate
with the spirit world, for want of a better term. The idea that past,
present and future can co exist at one point is not new. Eminent cosmologists
like Stephen Hawking will quite happily explain, far more learnedly
than I, how such a state can exist and how it may be possible within
the multi verse for space and time to join, to branch, to link. Scientists
study deepest space and speculate on the existence of worm holes which
link parts of the multi verse and it is my belief there are places on
this earth, now, where the fabric of space and time are also linked.
And where the walls or barriers that separate the present from the past
and the future are less opaque - thinner. At certain times certain people
in certain places become aware of these past and future echoes in the
present.
Dover Castle is one such place where the fabric of space and time is
thinner. I believe it is one of several such places that exist across
the world. And that these places are pulse points where the health of
the planet and mankind is checked, weighed in the balance. Why Dover?
Quite simply because for much of British history Dover has been the
backdrop against which events which have shaped our lives as a nation
has been played. Whether it was the Roman invasion, the Battle of Britain,
powered flight by Bleriot, the English Civil War, The Black Death, The
Viking Raids, the Miracle of Dunkirk, the joy of millions of reunions
and the sorrow of so many partings in the port - where the envious eyes
of Hitler,Caesar, Napoleon, have looked on these shores with conquest
in their hearts. Events that have shaped the lives of countless generations
have been played out within the shadow of the castle. There is not another
place like this in great Britain, possibly Europe. What better place
to take the pulse of the nation ? What better place to recall, measure
and weigh in the balance those events and emotions for good or ill that
shape us and define who we are as individuals and as a nation? At Dover
, Raven is the force that takes the pulse - measures the balance and
deliberates on the fate of us all. Across the world there are other
sites where the equivalent of what happens here, also happens. I do
not know how many, and I do not know where they are. I believe there
may be as many as fifty, as few as a dozen. Why does Raven exist? I
believe that at some point in the past, present or future there is,
has been or will be a day of reckoning, and at that point the human
race will be found wanting or fitting. I do not say that this it true
- I only say this is what I believe. And what I believe is what countless
generations have also believed. Consider the legend of King Arthur -
the Power of the Holy Grail to restore the land. Consider also the legends
concerning the Knights Templar - those Warrior Priests of the Middle
Ages who were feared throughout the Crusades, and who, it is rumored,
worshipped Baphomet, which also held the power to heal the land. Now
consider this - Dugdales’ Monasticon, a Medieval text, places
King Arthur at Dover with his wife Guinevere. And within the Keep Yard
at Dover Castle we have Arthur's Hall, and Arthur's Lesser Hall, which
is also known as Guinevere's Hall. Consider also that Thomas Mallory's
"Morte De Arthur", another Medieval text, places King Arthur
here at Dover where he fought one battle on Dover Beach and another
on Barham Downs. Consider also that Dover Castle is ringed to the North,
to the South, to the West by properties which once belonged to the Knights
Templar at a time when Dover was not the main port of England. Remember
also that this castle was built by Henry II whose Queen, Eleanor of
Aquitaine, was besotted by the Arthurian romances, and lived her life
and ruled her court on the principals contained therein. And finally
consider that again according to Mallory, Sir Gawain, one of Arthur's
Knights, was killed in battle at Dover, and that within the castle his
head remains for all to see. I mentioned the worship of Baphomet by
the Knights Templar earlier. What I didn’t mention was that Baphomet
was a head. Nor that for many, the Knights Templar were charged with
protecting the Holy Grail, with the power to heal the land, and we are
starting to go around in circles here, and for some, me included, the
circle's centre is Dover Castle. You may disagree with my interpretation
- many do. However, if you have come this far with me, consider this
one final point - I believe that the center of this power lies in the
oldest part of the castle, that part that lies before the Nuclear Bunker,
before the Second World War, before the Victorians, the Georgians, the
Tudors, before Henry II, back to Anglo Saxon times when the original
church was built and the well behind the church was dug.
Two of the three wells located at Dover Castle are encased in brick
and stone and any light they may emanate is smothered - suffocated by
their surroundings. The third well - the third well is a different matter
altogether. It is ancient - how ancient I do not know. It was here when
William the Conqueror came. It was here when St Augustine trod this
way, and it radiates light. The Saxon well, steeped in mystery and legend.
A small insignificant well, easily overlooked, not given a second thought.
William the Conqueror knew the importance of it and marched straight
here from Hastings to claim it for his own. I would love to find out
what is in that well, for I believe it is possibly the key to what is
happening at Dover Castle.
That well, I believe, holds the secret. It has not been explored, no
one I know of has been down to the bottom of it. It seems inconceivable
that it reaches over 300 feet, a distance needed if it is to reach the
water table, but what is certain is that it goes straight through all
of the thousand years of Roman, or Iron age history, possibly earlier,
when human activity shaped this landscape. The Anglo-Saxon well is a
channel that links us today with a time we can barely imagine. It links
high place with low - stone with water. What I hope is, and one of the
reasons I run tours, is to raise money to investigate the well. To find
out what does lie within it, and to find out whether the radiance that
I feel goes down into the depths of the earth. If you would like to
know more about my work, about the ghost walks at Dover Castle, or would
